Port Wine Stains - Vascular Birthmarks

Port Wine Stains Houston - Houston Port Wine Stains
Poikiloderma refers to increased pigmentation, producing reddish-brown skin, usually on the sides and front of the neck and chest. Sun protection is the best preventative measure for poikiloderma. However, an intense pulsed light procedure (Photofacial) will reduce the coloration over several treatments. The light source works by emitting intense, but gentle light bursts that target abnormal tissue and leave the surrounding tissue untouched.

What are Port Wine Stains?

Birthmarks are more commonplace than one may initially realize. It is said that one out of ten babies are born with - or develop within their first year--a vascular birthmark. A vascular birthmark is typically caused from an imbalance or developmental problem in the skin cells, which can cause a variety of different types of birthmarks. One particular kind of vascular birthmark has been dubbed as a "port wine stain" birthmark. Port wine stains are vascular birthmarks that can be anywhere from a pale pink color to a deeper red, such as that of a "port wine." They develop due to dilated blood vessels, hence the reddish appearance. They are typically larger in size than other vascular birthmarks. Port wine stains can change in size and looks over time.

Often they can become thick and bumpy, and may be a source of embarrassment for individuals who have port wine stains on very noticeable places on their body (such as the hands and face). They will not go away over time, so in order to address them, Bellaire Dermatology can help. While port wine stains are unsightly, they are usually harmless and can be left alone. However, if port wine stains and other vascular birthmarks are causing you embarrassment (or making you self-conscious), you can consider thetreatment options at your local dermatologist. Dr. Craig Teller of Bellaire Dermatology Associates in Bellaire, Texas can help. Call today to schedule a consultation appointment so you can find out the options available to you. Now is the time to feel better about yourself by treating birthmarks and other skin problems that make you feel less than beautiful!

Thank You!!!
I have been a patient at
BDA for almost 5 years. During this time I have been treated by every doctor there.

For the last 2 years I have been under the care of Dr. Kimberly Mullinax. Dr. Mullinax is so dedicated and professional; words just won't describe the care she and her team have provided me. I was waiting for Dr. Mullinax who was so concerned about my condition that she made time for me at the end
of the day.
