Flushing, where the skin turns bright red, can be a problem for many. Determining the underlying cause is key to treatment.

Flushing of the face with heat, alcohol and certain foods commonly appears in patients with rosacea. Flushing at night or associated along with hot flashes can be hormonal. Redness and fine veins of the face can be due to chronic sun damage. When the redness is associated with diarrhea, nausea or vomiting can indicate more complex medical problems.
